CHAPTER 70 DINNER MEETING

held at

 

KS ON THE KEYS

 

 Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Socialize from 6:15 hrs - Dinner at 6:45 hrs

 

 

1) At 6:45 PM, Richard Ferch, VE3KI welcomed 27 Chapter members and guests, and introduced the head table.

2) Minutes of the May 17, 2016 dinner meeting:

Richard VE3KI asked for approval of the minutes as posted on the Chapter 70 website.  Moved by Ralph Cameron VE3BBM and seconded by Doug Leach VE3XK that the minutes be adopted as posted. Carried.

 

Doug Leach VE3XK made an announcement he has been in phone contact with Ernie Brown, VE3OEB and says he's well and misses the gang in Ottawa.  Ernie passes along his best wishes to everybody.

 

                                  

3) President’s report:

Richard Ferch VE3KI announced that Barry Allison VE3NJK will be stepping down as treasurer so we are open for nominations for his replacement.  Also, Al Goodacre VE3HX has accepted nomination for a Director's position to replace John Hewitt VE3PUX who will be stepping down after the November AGM.

 

Richard also announced the offer from Joe Parkinson to donate his TenTec Omni 7 HF transceiver to the Chapter for use as a "remote" station.  The Omni 7 has the unique feature that it can be connected directly to an internet router and be controlled remotely by simple to use TenTec application software. There was a small show members that indicated they might be interested in using such a set up.  How it could be implemented will be explored.

 

Richard also told about the good work of Gary Spence VE2GK developing a Facebook presence for Chapter 70.  Gary is looking members photos, stories and information to post on the page.  Members can contact Gary at VE2GK@rac.ca

 

4) Illness and SK Report: - John Barnhardt VE3ZOV, reported on sick and ailing members as follows:

 

Chapter 70 member Norm Hagan VE3VY passed away July 17.  Norm had become a regular at the Tuesday morning breakfast meetings since moving to Ottawa from Westport.  Norm had recently lost his wife Helen VE3BNZ last December. John asked for a minute of reflection for Norm and Helen.

 

John also reported that Tom Bartello VE3ELM is not well.  A card for Tom was passed around to be signed by the members attending the meeting.

5) After Dinner Speaker:  

Long-Delayed Echoes

Presenter – Alan Goodacre VE3HX

The speaker was introduced by Dave Conn, VE3KL giving a good review of Alan's academic, career and amateur radio accomplishments. Alan has documented is research and findings on Long-Delayed Echoes in several QST articles, specifically May 1962, April 1963, June 1976 and January 1981.

The speaker was thanked by Richard Ferch VE3KI.


5) Door Prizes and 50-50 draw.

The Door Prizes were won by Ralph Cameron VE3BBM, Dave Parks VE3AV and Richard Ferch VE3KI.  Vincent Hyatt VE3VGH won the 50/50.

 

6) Next meeting:  

Before closing, Richard VE3KI announced that the Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday November 15 at KS on the Keys.  

The guest speaker will be Norm Rashleigh VE3LC giving a talk on his experience teaching the amateur radio course at the Ottawa Valley Mobile Radio Club.

Richard encouraged members to check into the Monday night net on repeater VE3MPC.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
