1. At 6:45 PM, David Conn, VE3KL welcomed 40 Chapter members, spouses and guests, and asked all members to introduce themselves. (A small change from tradition). Dave Introduced new members:

2. Minutes of the May dinner meeting:
Dave, VE3KL asked for approval of the minutes of the May 15, 2012 dinner meeting as posted on the Chapter 70 website. Moved by Dick, VE3FUA and seconded by John, VE3CXL that the minutes be adopted as posted. Carried.
3. Bob MacKenzie, VA3RKM, reported on:
a) The resignation of Dave Parks as the chapter vice president and thanked him for his efforts during his term.
b) The appointment of George Roach as the acting vice president.
c) The nomination of Barry Allison by the executive committee as a director of Chapter 70 for a two year term (starting immediately and ending December 31, 2014). Bob moved that his appointment be accepted. Seconded by John, VE3CXL. Carried.
4. Secretary’s Report: - Norm Rashleigh, VE3LC, provided the following report:
a) Update on the request for permission for Chapter 70 to send members email to QCWA Inc. Norm requested that members that did not respond to the e-mail can give their permission on a signature sheet at the meeting. Once the Chapter makes the submission with members e-mail addresses, Chapter members will be issued a login password by QCWA Inc to access the members only portion of the website where they can download an electronic version of journal as well as members contact information.
b) Norm reviewed the QCWA field trip and asked for ideas for our next outing.. Photographs from the field trip are available on our Web site under the section “History/Events”. Some of these photographs, including a group shot of the participants, were taken by John Barnhardt, VE3ZOV.
Moved by Norm and seconded by John Hewitt, that the Secretary’s report be accepted. Carried
5. Treasurer’s report:
The Treasurer’s report was presented by Dick Bonnycastle, VE3FUA, as follows:
a) Financial status since last meeting.
Finances for the period April 20 to August 14, 2012
Income: $1163.09 ( $907.00 is from an estate sale.)
Net increase in account: $974.71
Amount currently in bank account: $3006.32
b) Dick explained to members the new method for paying dues to QCWA Inc. involving an on-line credit card transaction through PayPal and the increase in membership dues. Now, with all memberships, members are able to access the Journal magazine as an electronic download.
Moved by Dick and seconded by Bryan, VE3QN, that the Treasurer’s report be accepted. Carried.
6. Illness and SK Report: - Richard Ferch VE3KI, reported on the sick and ailing members as follows:
Richard reported that:
· Rod Newkirk, VA3ZBB remains convalescing and has good and not so good days;
· Brian Jeffrey, VE3UU has now fully recovered from his operation;
· Brian Hick, VE3BRT, has passed away;
· Jerry Erland, VE3BBY, has passed away and
· Russ Low, VE3LOW has passed away.
7. News and Notices:
George Roach, VE3BNO, reported on the Fall 2012 QCWA QSO Party and is preparing with Frances, VE3HKG to attend the QCWA convention in Reno Nevada. Further, we congratulate John, VE3ZOV for passing the 50,000 Kms bicycling since 2001. Also, we are looking into a group purchase of QCWA hats and shirts for Chapter members.
8. Business Arising: Nothing to Report
9. After Dinner Speaker:
Michael Babineau, VE3WMB, presented a wonderful talk on the principles and use of the Hellschreiber digital communications. He presented the history and early machines used and the modern ways amateurs can use the mode with readily available software.
He was introduced by Dave Parks, VE3AV, and thanked by Dave Conn, VE3KL
10. Door Prizes and 50-50 draw:
The Door Prizes were presented by Dave Conn, VE3KL with the assistance of our guest speaker Michael Babineau, VE3WMB.
Those winning: Marcel VE3FNG, Alan,VE3HX, Al, VE3ANO, and Bob, VA3RKM won the 50/50 cash prize.
11. Next meeting:
Before closing, Dave VE3KL announced that the next dinner meeting will be held on Tuesday November 20, 2012 and that the guest speaker will be Wayne Getchell, VE3CZO, who will speak about a technical topic of his choice. He also encouraged members to use the new services of QCWA Inc. as described by Norm Rashleigh, VE3LC.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
