MINUTES

 

CHAPTER 70 DINNER MEETING and Annual General Meeting held at

 

KS ON THE KEYS

 

Tuesday, November 17, 2015 Socialize from 6:15 hrs - Dinner at 6:45 hrs

 

1) At 6:45 PM, Richard Ferch, VE3KI welcomed 21 Chapter members and guests and introduced the head table.

1)   Annual Message from the President as presented by Richard Ferch, VE3KI:

 

Richard announced that Chapter 70 member Jim Dean, VE3IQ (SK) has been appointed to the Canadian Amateur Radio Hall of Fame. Chapter 70 has been asked to host the presentation, and this is currently planned for the luncheon meeting on February 16, 2016.


He also made an announcement about a DXers’ and Contesters’ meeting that is planned for Saturday January 23 at St Paul’s Presbyterian Church on Woodroffe Avenue. The meeting is sponsored by Contest Club Ontario, but anyone who is interested in DX is invited. The meeting will run from about 11:30 am to 3:30 pm, and will include a light lunch and some guest speakers.

 

Richard thanked the volunteers and executive for their dedication and hard work for QCWA Chapter 70. Thanks to Doug Leach, VE3XK for running our web site and keeping the Chapter archives, Pat Brewer VE3KJQ for handling certificates and pins for the May 2014 meeting and John Barnhardt VE3ZOV for photography and for managing the Chapter’s weekly 2 metre net.

 

Richard thanked the guest speakers for 2013/14:

 

·   Bryan Rawlings VE3QN: The Quest for 60 metres

 

·   John Gilbert VE3CXL:  Hams I met at Work

 

·   Harrie Jones VE3HYS: Lightning and Grounding

 

and also mentioned that he had given a short talk in February about the QCWA QSO Party.

 

Richard asked anyone who might be able to give members rides to the meetings to please let a member of the Executive know. He reminded members to invite eligible amateurs to join the Chapter. He also encouraged members to check into the Monday night net (7:30 pm, VE3MPC repeater).

 

2)   Illness and SK Report: - John Barnhardt VE3ZOV, reported that there were no illnesses or silent keys to report at this meeting, but asked for a moment of silence in view of recent events.

 

3)   Minutes of the September 15, 2015 dinner meeting: Richard VE3KI asked for approval of the minutes as posted on the Chapter 70 website.

 

Moved by George Roach, VE3BNO and seconded by Doug Leach, VE3XK, that the minutes be adopted as posted. Carried.

 

4)   Norm VE3LC reported that meeting reports have been forwarded regularly to QCWA International and appear in the QCWA Journal a couple of months after the meetings.


5)   Treasurer’s Report and proposed Budget for 2016: Barry Allison VE3NJK presented the financial report which is attached to the end of these minutes. He stated that charitable donations were made to Radio Amateurs of Canada and to the QCWA Scholarship Fund. Any other suggestions for donations by Chapter 70 are sought from the membership. Please convey to an executive member. The proposed budget for 2016 was also presented. Moved by Gary Hyatt, VE3MJT and seconded by Wayne Getchell, VE3CZO, that the Treasurer’s report be approved. Carried.    The club's fiscal report is appended to these minutes.

 

6)   Nominating Report: Dave VE3KL spoke to nominations for the Executive for 2016. The only executive positions that need to be filled at this meeting are the positions of President and Treasurer. The current incumbents have indicated their willingness to serve for another two-year term. Dave asked whether there were any nominations from the floor. There being NO nominations from the floor, it was moved by Dave Parks, VE3AV, and seconded by George Roach, VE3BNO, that the executive be elected as proposed. Carried.

 

7)    After Dinner Speaker:

 

Yaesu System Fusion Digital Radio Presenter – Norm Rashleigh VE3LC

The speaker was introduced by Richard Ferch VE3KI.

 

Norm Rashleigh gave a presentation on the Yaesu System Fusion digital radio system. He also made some comparisons with the rival D-Star system which some members may already be familiar with.

 

The speaker was thanked by Dave Conn VE3KL.

 

8)    Door Prizes and 50-50 draw.

The Door Prizes were presented by Dave Conn, VE3KL with the assistance of Norm Rashleigh, VE3LC.  The 50-50 Draw was won by Gary Hyatt, VE3MJT.

 

 

9)    Rides for Members unable to drive.

It was requested of the membership attending that consideration be given to offering rides to some members that can no longer drive or readily get to meetings on their own. In particular, Jack Belrose and Al Oldfield, both west end residents will be needing rides to future meetings.


10)    Next meeting:

Before closing, Richard VE3KI announced that the next meeting will be held on Tuesday February 16, 2015 at KS on the Keys. As in recent years, it will be a luncheon meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm.
