CHAPTER 70 DINNER MEETING

Socialize from 6:15 hrs - Dinner at 6:45 hrs

 

 

1) At 6:45 PM, John Barnhardt, VE3ZOV welcomed 32 Chapter members, spouses, ladies and guests of Chapter 70 and introduced the head table:

2) Annual Acknowledgments: John VE3ZOV thanked the following volunteers and executive members for their hard work and dedication to Chapter 70:

3) Summer event: John VE3ZOV announced that the Executive was planning to organize a summer activity, possible at the Aviation Museum grounds, with some optional ham radio operating activities for those interested. Date to be determined, likely mid-August. He asked members to communicate suggestions for this activity to the Executive.

 

 

                                  

4) Treasurers & New Members Report - Bryan Rawlings VE3QN

 

Bryan presented the following Chapter 70 financial and membership report:

Cash on hand:                                                                                 $281.00

 

Pending transactions:                                                                         (Nil)

 

The Chapter 70 membership list shows 65 members of which 21 have paid their 2018 dues.

 

Bryan also mentioned that to encourage folks who are interested in membership in the QCWA parent organization and joining Chapter 70,  he and the Chapter will look after the application process and first year membership costs ($25 US) in the parent organization on behalf of any new and eligible and sponsored radio amateur.

7) After Dinner Speaker:  

Richard Ferch VE3KI introduced  John Gilbert VE3CXL as our speaker for the evening.  John gave a wonderful presentation with the title: “A Shoebox of QSL cards: Memories of Solar Cycle 19”  As usual, John’s talk was rich in detail and included many pictures of QSL cards as he recounted his working career with the Department of Transport stationed at such far north places as Resolute Bay and Eureka and indulging in the opportunity to work DX from these exotic locations between 1956 to 1958 when Solar Cycle 19 was at its peak. Following his presentation, Bryan Rawlings VE3QN thanked John for his most entertaining story he told.

8) Door Prizes and 50-50 draw.

The 3 Door Prizes for the ladies were presented by Gary Spence / VE2GK; the 50/50 prize was won by Dave Parks, VE3AV.

9) Next meeting:  

Before closing, John VE3ZOV announced that the next dinner meeting will be held on Tuesday September 18 at KS on the Keys.  

                        The guest speaker has not yet been determined.

John  VE3ZOV closed the meeting by encouraging members to check into the Monday night net – 7:30 on VE3MPC Repeater *** 100Hz tone.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
