CHAPTER 70 DINNER MEETING and Annual General Meeting

held at

ROBBIE’S RESTAURANT

 

6:45 pm – 9:30 pm

 Tuesday November 15, 2011

 

1)                           At 6:45 PM, President David Conn welcomed 43 Chapter members and guests, and introduced the head table.

3)                           Annual Message from the President:

 

David Conn, VE3KL, addressed the membership on a number of subjects that included:

·        Jack Belrose, VE2CV, has won the Radio Amateurs of Canada “Hall of Fame” award for 2011 resulting from the nomination by our Chapter. Dave also thanked Graham Ide, VE3BYT for putting together much of the supporting information about Jack and submitting it to the RAC awards committee on behalf the Chapter 70.  Jack’s award follows other recent nominations for the RAC Hall of Fame award from Chapter 70 that has included Rod Newkirk, VA3ZBB and Croft Taylor, VE3CT.  Jack’s award will be presented to him at the February 2012 luncheon meeting.

·        Dave gave thanks to members of executive for their dedication and hard work serving the Chapter.  He also thanked volunteers including Marcel Lemay who administers the pins and certificate awards, Doug Leach for his keeping of the Web site and as club historian, John Barnhardt for meeting photography, and Joan Powell for doing the club’s financial audit.

·        Dave also mentioned there may be plans to organize activities beyond the quarterly meetings.  This may include a trip to Kingston to the Military Communications Museum or other activities suggested by the membership.

                                               

 

4)                           Minutes of the September 15th, 2011 dinner meeting:

 

Dave VE3KL, asked for approval of the September 20th, 2011 minutes as posted on the Chapter 70 website.          Moved by Norm Rashleigh, VE3LC, and seconded by Dick Bonnycastle, VE3FUA that the minutes be adopted as posted. Carried.

 

5)                          Secretary’s Report:  Report from Norm Rashleigh VE3LC. 

Norm reported that the minutes will be posted on the Web site shortly after the meeting and a brief report of our November meeting will be prepared and sent to QCWA headquarters for inclusion in the Journal.


6)                           Treasurer’s report and proposed 2011 Budget:

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Dick Bonnycastle VE3FUA.

Dick reported the following since the last meeting.

·        Total Income                $453.10

·        Total Expenses $361.60

·        Net Change                  +$91.50

·        Cash on Hand              $2254.93

 

Acceptance of this part of the Treasurer’s report was moved by Dick, VE3FUA and seconded by Doreen, VE3CGO.  Carried

 

For 2012, Dick, VE3FUA and the executive proposed the following Budget for 2012 to the membership:

Proposed Donations for 2012 

 

The Donations for 2012 in the budget have been trimmed from $500 to $250 with the difference being applied to the purchase of equipment in support of our meetings; this may include the purchase of a new sound system.  It is planned that the donations for 2012 will be $130 to Radio Amateurs of Canada directly for their operations and $120 (US) to the QCWA Scholarship Fund.

 

Acceptance of the Budget including the planned donations was moved by Dick VE3FUA and seconded by Joan, VE3ZC.  Carried

 

7)                           Illness and SK Report: - Richard Ferch VE3KI, was happy to report to the membership that there was nothing to report.

 

8)                           Nominating Report: Bob Mackenzie, VA3RKM, presented the nominating report: Dick Bonnycastle’s VE3FUA term as treasurer is up and needs to be re-elected.  Bob asked for other nominations from the floor; none being offered,  Dick was acclaimed to serve another term. Richard Ferch, George Roach and John Gilbert will remain as Directors.  Norm Rashleigh will remain as secretary. Bob Mackenzie VA3RKM will hold the position of Past President until relieved of his duty.  Bob also announced that Doug Leach VE3XK has agreed to continue for another year as the Web master and archivist for the chapter.   

 

9)                          Richard Ferch, VE3KI, report on the Croft Taylor estate sale.      Rich reported that the sale of Croft’s equipment is now complete and the proceeds have been presented to Croft’s widow, Elizabeth.

10)                       Presentation of pins and certificates: Dave VE3KL and Marcel VE3FNG presented the following members with anniversary  pins as follows:

·                                   Barry Allison, VE3NJK       40 years

·                                   Neal Petersen, VE3DHE     50 years

 

11)                       After Dinner Speaker:  Ed Morgan, VE3GX on “How Ed Won the War”.  George Roach, VE3BNO, introduced Ed.  Ed gave a very informative talk supported by a slide show prepared by Doug, VE3XK, on Ed’s war time experiences as a RCAF Radio Direction Finding technical with postings to India and Burma. 

 

12)                       Door prizes and 50-50 draw: Dave, VE3KL, conducted the selection of winning tickets for the door prizes and 50/50 draw.  The winner of the 50/50 draw was John Barnhardt, VE3ZOV.

 

 

 

Next meeting: - Before closing, Dave, VE3KL thanked all for attending and announced that the next dinner meeting will be held at Robbie's Restaurant on Tuesday February 21, 2012. It will be held at the noon hour (commencing at 11:15 am).  Our speaker will be Doug Leach, VE3XK, who will make a presentation on the interesting topic of Vertical Antennas.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm.
